What documents do international students need to apply to Canadian universities?

Many international students choose to study in Canada because of its high-quality education and reasonable tuition fees. However, before you start your studies in Canada, you must ensure you have all the required documents. Applying to a university can be daunting, especially if you are applying to universities in a different country. There are a lot of steps involved in the application process but do not worry, our Education Consultant for Canada is here to break it down for you!

Where to start?

The first step is to ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements of the universities you are applying to. Make sure to check the admission requirements on the university’s website before you start your application. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you can proceed with your application. The next step is to gather all the necessary documents, which include:

– Official transcripts: To begin the application process, you must submit official transcripts from Class 10th up to your highest level of education.

– Language proficiency test results: International students may have to provide proof of language proficiency to attend a university in Canada. For English-speaking students, the following exams are widely accepted and will suffice: IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, or PTE. If you are applying for a program taught in French, you may need to submit a French Proficiency Test like the TCF, TEF, DELF or DALF.

– Updated Resume/CV: You must have an up-to-date resume that details all your academic achievements, professional experience, skills, objectives, and so on.

– Proof of Funds: International students seeking to study in Canada must provide evidence that they have the necessary funds to cover their first year of studies. This encompasses, but is not restricted to, tuition fees, living expenses, books, travel costs etc.

Course-specific documents

Depending on the program you are applying for, there may be additional document requirements. For Bachelor’s Degree, for example, you may need to submit high school transcripts, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and/or SAT/ACT scores. Master’s applicants need to submit their Graduation Certificate along with their undergraduate transcripts, a letter of intent, and at least two- three recommendation letters or referees.

MBA applicants also need to submit their Graduation Certificate, updated resume and letters of recommendation. In addition, prospective MBA students may need to submit the work experience letters, GMAT and GRE test results.
